What does the radiograph show? What condition is associated with these findings?

  1. This is an upright chest radiograph that shows a low, flat diaphragm, hyperinflated lungs, and a small heart. These findings are typical of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). On a lateral chest x-ray, the additional finding of a barrel chest (increased anterior-posterior diameter) may be seen. In addition, bullous changes (air bubbles on lung surfaces) may be present in some patients with emphysema.
