  1. This is central obesity in a man with extensive plaque psoriasis. A plaque is a solid plateau-like elevation that occupies a relatively large surface area in comparison with its height above the normal skin level and has a diameter larger than 0.5 cm. Plaques are further characterized by their size, shape, color, and surface change. The risk of psoriasis increases with obesity and psoriasis has been shown to be related to chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
